Support and awareness for care givers

Caregiving involves assisting with meals; personal care; and transportation. It is the provision of care for the physical and emotional needs of a family member or a friend.

This free online caregiver course from Wiltshire Training focuses on the basic legal and ethical issues of providing care and will help you develop your knowledge and skills further when caring for someone at home.

The course is set over 6 x1hr sessions on the following areas-

15th May 09:30-10:30 Session 1- Caring in an individual’s home

This session will introduce the context of the course, give you a chance to discuss your own needs and acknowledge the amazing work that a caregiver is doing. Included will also be signposting to relevant services for further support and an opportunity to network.

16th May 09:30-10:30 Session 2- Dementia awareness

Providing care for people with dementia has unique requirements and challenges. In this course, you will learn about dementia as an illness, what you could expect and how to provide support for your family member/ friend.

17th May 09:30-10:30 Session 3- Autism and communication

This session explores communication, potential differences, styles and preferences for autistic people. Learners will be able to better recognise the impact of these differences aiming to reduce barriers to successful communication.

18th May 09:30-10:30 Session 4- Assessing care needs

This session looks at an individual’s care needs and how to help or support them. It includes pain management, sleep, pressure/ skin care and signposting to further support and guidance.

19th May 09:30-10:30 Session 5- Looking after your own wellbeing

Feelings of stress and anxiety are commonplace occurrences in the majority of people’s lives, due to the pressures or difficult situations we can find ourselves facing. In these times it is more important than ever to protect our mental wellbeing. This session will build an understanding of what stress and anxiety is and what activities will help to alleviate the symptoms.

22nd May 09:30-10:30 Session 6- Safeguarding yourself

Safeguarding means protecting a person’s right to live in safely, free from abuse and neglect.​ This session aims to give caregivers’ guidance of how to avoid situations which may inadvertently lead to undue allegations of inappropriate conduct in relation to safeguarding.
