It might mean they cannot leave the house, hear voices, hurt themselves or feel sad for long periods of time. There are lots of different forms of mental illness. Carers Trust have produced some factsheets in partnership with the Royal College of Psychiatrists that might help.
Looking after someone with mental ill health can be difficult, especially if you are not sure why they are acting the way they are. Don’t be afraid to talk to someone about it. You will not be letting them down. It will help you and staying well is really important, both for you and the person you are looking after.
