This Volunteer Week we are celebrating the huge contribution that carers make to our charity and to the lives of carers in Wiltshire.
Here Sue talks about how volunteering gave her the opportunity to get back into work.
Sue Davies – Administration Assistant, Carer Support Wiltshire
I found myself in a position where due to caring responsibilities, I needed to give up working. I cared full-time for nearly four years.
As the situation improved, I hoped to give something back to Carer Support Wiltshire, who had supported me during my most difficult times. I approached them and applied to volunteer.
There are many volunteer roles within the organisation to use skills you may already have. This gave me an amazing opportunity to ease myself back into the workplace to try and re-build confidence, learn new skills, and interact with others.
It was lovely to have another outlet other than home, and I was fortunate at a later stage to be offered a position as a ‘bank’ employee. It is one of the friendliest, most supportive organisations I’ve ever worked for!
