We are pleased to announce that unpaid carers aged between 18 and 64 are now being invited for a Covid-19 vaccination.
Unpaid carers are defined by the Care Act as: people who look after family members, friends, neighbours or others because of long-term physical or mental ill health or disability, or care needs related to old age. This does not include any activities as part of paid employment.
If you are registered as an unpaid carer with your GP practice, or you are known to your local authority or Carer Support Wiltshire, you will be contacted by your GP service to make appointment for a vaccination.
Carers in receipt of Carer Allowance
If you receive the Carer Allowance you can now make an appointment via the National Booking Service at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or call 119 free of charge, between 7am and 11pm, seven-days-a-week. You will be contacted by your GP if you do not make an appointment with the National Booking Service.
Carers using the national booking system will be able to choose to receive the vaccine from the large vaccination centres at Salisbury City Hall and Bath Racecourse, or from one of three local pharmacies currently offering a vaccination service. These pharmacies are Avicenna Pharmacy in Swindon, Shaunaks Pharmacy in Westbury and the Pharmacy in Ludgershall.
Carers not registered with their GP practice
If you are not registered with your GP as an unpaid carer, but you care for an older or Clinically Extremely Vulnerable person and feel that you meet the criteria as defined in the Care Act, please contact your GP practice to register.
If you do not register, or do not consider yourself an unpaid carer, please remember no one will be left behind and all adults will be offered a first dose vaccination by the 31st July 2021.
Carers aged 16-18
We are currently waiting for more information on how carers aged 16-18 can book their vaccine appointments.
