We’re pleased to announce that, thanks to new funding from the Government Equalities Office, we’ll be launching in October 2019 a return to work programme to help carers back into work.
1 in 3 people will have to care for a family member or loved one at some point and that often means taking an extended break from work.
Our new Returners Programme will offer a reintroduction to the workplace for those in need of help resuming their careers. It will provide support and tools to address issues such as confidence as well as updating industry-specific knowledge.
We’ll also work in partnership with employers and the programme will offer the opportunity to access a largely untapped pool of experienced and motivated individuals who are keen to get back to their profession.
MP for Devizes and Minister for Energy and Clean Growth, Claire Perry said:
“I am proud to be a Patron for Carer Support Wiltshire and I have been very impressed with their drive to work with and support employers through their Working for Carers business programme, improving workplace support for carers in employment. A programme to help carers resume their careers after an extended career break seems a natural next step.
“I know from my regular meetings with local businesses that finding people with the right skills is still a challenge for many of these employers and I welcome this new initiative which will help to fill these gaps, whilst supporting those who have given up their careers to care for another, to return to skilled and fulfilling work.”
Carer Support Wiltshire currently have nearly 2,000  carers registered with them who are unemployed and would like to work. Of those:
- 368 carers are actively seeking work
- Nearly 1,000 feel their skills are out of date or they lack the confidence to take the next step
- Over 1,000 “feel hopeless and don’t know where to start”
Employers will gain access to potential new employees, helping them to fill skills gaps. New online tools and support for line managers will be available to ensure successful integration of returners into the workplace and we’ll be on hand to help make the transition for returners as smooth and successful as possible.

“As an employer, Wiltshire College has a wide range of employment opportunities which can be promoted through the Returners Programme. The Returners Programme includes membership of their Working for Carers Programme, which provides support for employers and training for line managers. We feel this is a key element which will help Wiltshire College ensure our workplace culture and processes make returners feel supported and included.”
